Streambed Median Grain Size (D50) across the Contiguous U.S.

چکیده
The streambed median grain size (D50) has been an integral part of many sediment transport and stream power equations seeking to characterize channel stability conditions. However, its previous usage is constrained by regional applicability, localization datasets, a limited number data points. This study uses large geographically diverse set (n > 2400), from five published sources, present quantitative information assess the distribution D50 across contiguous U.S. Spatial was analyzed based on three frameworks: Physiographic Provinces, Level III Ecoregions, Hydrologic Landscape Regions (HLRs). Gravel found be dominant material in most Provinces. with humid climate, permeable soil, plateaus exhibit higher average than regions other geologic texture, landscape forms. Further analysis all using smoothed spatial maps showed dominance sand fine gravel streams located central southern U.S., coarse cobbles northeastern

Variability of wildland fire emissions across the contiguous United States
This study analyzes spatial and temporal variability of emissions from wildland fires across the contiguous US. The emissions are estimates based on a recently constructed dataset of historical fire records collected by multiple US governlnental agencies. Both wildfire and prescribed fires have the highest emissions over the Pacific coastal states. Prescribed fire emissions are also found to be...
متن کاملGrain size, size-distribution and dislocation structure
Diffraction peak profile analysis (or Line Profile Analysis, LPA) has recently been developed to such an extent that it can be applied as a powerful method for the characterization of microstructures of crystalline materials in terms of crystallite size-distribution and dislocation structures. Physically based theoretical functions and their Fourier coefficients are available for both, the size...
متن کاملEffects of Hyporheic Water Fluxes and Sediment Grain Size on the Concentration and Diffusive Flux of Heavy Metals in the Streambed
The hyporheic zone regulates physicochemical processes in surface-groundwater systems and can be an important source of heavy metals in fluvial systems. This study assesses the pore water concentrations and diffusive fluxes of heavy metals with respect to the vertical water exchange flux (VWEF) and sediment grain size. Water and sediment samples were collected on August 2016 from upstream Site ...
متن کاملOptimal Grain Size Computation for
In this paper, we present a method for overlapping communications on parallel computers for pipelined algorithms. We rst introduce a general theoretical model which leads to a generic computation scheme for the optimal packet size. Then, we use the OPIUM 3 library, which provides an easy-to-use and eecient way to compute, in the general case, this optimal packet size, on the column LU factoriza...
متن کاملReading acquisition, developmental dyslexia, and skilled reading across languages: a psycholinguistic grain size theory.
The development of reading depends on phonological awareness across all languages so far studied. Languages vary in the consistency with which phonology is represented in orthography. This results in developmental differences in the grain size of lexical representations and accompanying differences in developmental reading strategies and the manifestation of dyslexia across orthographies. Diffe...
